Therapy and Rehab options
Decompression Therapy
Decompression therapy is a treatment we offer here at the Carlson Clinic to those who are looking for relief from their nagging nerve pains that haven’t been helped by things such as rest, physical therapy, and acupuncture. What the decompression table does is help reduce the pressure on said nerves by stretching out the affected area, allowing those nerves to properly communicate with the rest of the body without being blocked or pinched. Compression of the spinal cord isn’t rare, but what isn’t known as well is that compression in the spinal cord can also lead to issues in other areas of the body. Listed below are the specifications of the decomp table we offer here
- 6-section treatment table provides maximum patient comfort in prone and supine positions for manual and traction therapy
- Pelvic tilt section can be adjusted from 0° to 15° to provide flexion of lumbar spine and to help address pelvic asymmetry
- Head piece can be repositioned from -15° to +40° to allow easy access to thoracic and cervical spine
- Tuck-away grab bars for hanging traction without thoracic restraint
- Leg section is adjustable from 0° to 45°
- Gas springs assist in friction-free movement of head, pelvic, chest and leg sections which are easily accessible from either side of the table
- Foot/hand controller allows easy adjustment of table height and includes a lockable safety mechanism
- Complete range of accessories to suit every patient need
Kinesiology Tape
Kinesiology Taping, more commonly referred to as KT Tape, is an elastic sports tape that was made to help relieve pain while also supporting muscles, tendons and ligaments, as well as helping with lymphatic drainage by lifting the skin from the tissue. While originally invented in the 1970s, KT tape has become very much prevalent in today’s athletic world, with athletes all across the world getting taped in order to help make sure that they’re ready from game day. While it is not a “magic tape” that will suddenly make all of your pain disappear, it does have many benefits in assisting with recovery, including:
-
Reducing muscle pain and inflammation
-
Improving circulation in targeted areas
-
Relieving pressure on nerves/joints caused by repetitive motions
-
Stabilizing weak or injured muscles
-
Enhancing proprioception (the understanding of where one’s body is in space)
-
Preventing muscle strain and overuse injuries
-
Helping re-train muscles that have lost function or that have gotten used to an unhealthy way of working
-
Correcting posture in your head and neck
-
Helping stroke patients improve the way they walk
-
Boosting strength
-
Helping your body flush excess fluid
-
Temporarily reducing pain
-
Increasing awareness of your body
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a treatment involving sending electrical impulses to the muscles in order to stimulate them. Through this stimulation, we are recreating what happens when a muscle contracts and releases, which helps improve blood flow and stimulates muscle fibers/nerves in the affected areas in order to promote healing. Listed below are common medical conditions that can be useful to use EMS for:
-
back pain
-
fibromyalgia
-
joint pain
-
arthritis
-
muscle conditioning (mostly for athletes, such as long-distance runners)
-
muscle injury from trauma or disease
-
nerve inflammation
-
poor muscle strength
-
spinal cord injury
-
stroke
-
surgery recovery

Ultrasound Machine
The ultrasound machine works by generating high frequency ultrasound waves using vibration. Through this vibration, heat is transferred to the tendons, ligaments and muscles, which in turn helps improve circulation, as well as reducing inflammation. Some of the most common conditions that can be treated with ultrasound include:
-
Muscle Strains/Sprains
-
Arthritis
-
Tendonitis
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Scar Tissue
-
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
-
Plantar Fasciitis
-
TMJ
Ultrasound is a non-invasive, low risk alternative compared to other medical treatment options for such conditions, talk with your Doctor to see if they think it could be right for you!
